Washingtonville delivers at Goshen
Goshen brought a 4-0 record into its home game with Washingtonville. The Wizards left with a 37-7 win, putting both teams at 4-1.
Washingtonville was already ahead 31-7 with 11:44 remaining. A matchup between two of the teams near the top of the Power 40 became one of Friday’s clearest statements.
Highland answers. Cornwall does, too.
Highland needed a response after last week’s 52-6 loss to Burke Catholic. The Huskies got it against unbeaten Dover, winning 31-14 to improve to 4-1.
Highland led 24-14 after three quarters and finished the job. Dover falls to 3-1, and the Class C conversation gets another result that will matter when these teams are measured against each other.
Cornwall had its own difficult result to move past: a 31-0 loss to Newburgh. The Dragons responded with a 49-20 victory at Minisink Valley.
Cornwall took a 14-0 lead into halftime, stretched the advantage to 35-13 with 10:18 remaining, and finished with its second win of the season. Both Cornwall and Minisink are now 2-3.
Middletown stays perfect. Newburgh pulls away.
Middletown and Pine Bush were tied 7-7 at halftime. The Middies separated after the break, led 14-7 entering the fourth quarter and won 28-13. Pine Bush scored on the final play.
Middletown is 5-0. Pine Bush is 1-4. JoJo Royal found the end zone for the first score of the game, and the Middies added 21 second-half points to keep their season moving.
Newburgh’s game with Monroe-Woodbury was also level at 7 in the second quarter. From there, the Goldbacks scored the final 31 points in a 38-7 win.
Newburgh led 21-7 at halftime and improved to 4-1. Monroe-Woodbury falls to 0-5.
Beacon wins the shootout, then shuts the door
Beacon and New Paltz combined for 74 points before halftime. The Bulldogs led 40-34 at the break, then outscored the Huguenots 23-0 in the second half to finish a 63-34 victory.
Beacon is 5-0. New Paltz is 0-5. The first half was a shootout; the second half belonged to the Bulldogs.
Valley Central, Wallkill and O’Neill finish the job
Kingston struck first on a flea flicker, but Valley Central answered with 20 straight points to win 20-7 at Dietz. Daniel Joyce’s 38-yard field goal with 8:32 left in the fourth quarter made it a two-score game.
Valley Central improves to 4-1. Kingston is 2-3.
Wallkill’s 21-7 win at FDR was the Panthers’ third straight victory. Wallkill moves to 3-2, while FDR falls to 2-3 after its third consecutive loss.
O’Neill returned to the field with a 23-8 win over Rondout Valley. The Raiders are 3-2; Rondout is 2-3.
Lourdes starts fast. Pawling stays unbeaten.
Lourdes opened a 30-0 lead at Warwick and finished with a 52-35 win. The Warriors improve to 4-1, while Warwick remains winless at 0-5.
Pawling put up 62 points in a 62-20 victory over Pine Plains/Rhinebeck. The Tigers remain unbeaten at 4-0; Pine Plains/Rhinebeck is 2-2.
Eldred beat Fallsburg 28-12, bringing the Yellowjackets to 2-2. Fallsburg is 0-5.
Millbrook’s unbeaten start ended at Taconic Hills. The Blazers lost 22-8 and are now 3-1.
Warwick and Monroe: two programs, ten losses
Warwick and Monroe-Woodbury are both 0-5. The Wildcats lost 52-35 to Lourdes after falling behind 30-0. The Crusaders lost 38-7 to Newburgh after the game was tied at 7 in the second quarter.
For two established Section IX programs, the combined 0-10 start is one of the biggest stories of the first five games. Both enter Week 5 still searching for their first victory.
Coach I: 11-2 Friday, 12-2 for the week so far
Highland and Taconic Hills were the two Friday misses. The other 11 selections hit. Add Monticello’s 24-22 win over Liberty on Thursday, and Coach I stands at 12-2 through the first 14 Week 4 games.
The season ledger moves from 58-24 to 70-26, with seven Saturday picks still pending. Read the original Week 4 picks →
The Section IX-only record: 61-17
There is another way to read the ledger. In games between two Section IX teams, Coach I is 61-17 (.782) through Friday of Week 4. The full card, including Section IX teams facing outside opponents, is 70-26 (.729).
| Week | All picks | Section IX vs. Section IX | Out-of-section matchups |

| Week 4 through Friday | 12-2 | 12-1 | 0-1 |
| Total | 70-26 | 61-17 | 9-9 |
The official picks ledger includes two picked forfeit wins in Week 3: O’Neill over Poughkeepsie within Section IX, and Rockland over Hoosic Valley outside the section. In games actually played, the Section IX-only record is 60-17 (.779). O’Neill–Burke in Week 2 was never picked and remains excluded.
Where the 11 Week 0 losses came from
“Section 9 over EVERYBODY” meant backing the Section IX team in all 15 opening-week matchups against outside opponents. Those picks went 7-8. Eight of the 11 Week 0 misses came from that commitment; the other three came from games inside the section.
| Week 0 pick | Actual result | Matchup |
|---|---|---|
| Pine Bush | John Jay East Fishkill 41, Pine Bush 34 | Out of section |
| Cornwall | Rye 39, Cornwall 21 | Out of section |
| Newburgh | Curtis 35, Newburgh 28 | Out of section |
| Monroe-Woodbury | JFK Campus 36, Monroe-Woodbury 20 | Out of section |
| Warwick | Wagner 28, Warwick 19 | Out of section |
| Port Jervis | Waverly 36, Port Jervis 23 | Out of section |
| Chester | Tuckahoe 21, Chester 10 | Out of section |

| Lourdes | Washingtonville 34, Lourdes 16 | Section IX |
| New Paltz | Spackenkill 29, New Paltz 20 | Section IX |
| Wallkill | Highland 7, Wallkill 6 | Section IX |
Both records stay on the page. The overall number owns every selection; the Section IX-only number shows the results when Coach I is choosing between two teams from the section.
