Thursday opened Week 2. Friday takes it over.
Four Section IX finals are already in, and none were close. Newburgh Free Academy beat Washingtonville 48–12, Kingston stopped FDR 35–14, Highland moved to 3–0 with a 48–14 win over Rondout Valley, and Saugerties answered its opening loss by beating Liberty 35–6.
Newburgh made the loudest statement of Thursday night. Kingston ended FDR’s 86–0 start. Highland stayed perfect. Saugerties got the response it needed.
Now the Friday slate arrives with 12 more games, including a matchup between two of the section’s biggest programs looking for their first win, a top-10 showdown at Valley Central, one of Section IX’s hottest series streaks in Marlboro, and a major eight-man matchup in Lake Huntington.
#2 Cornwall at #5 Monroe-Woodbury — 6:00 PM
The records say 0–2 against 0–2.
The programs say something completely different.
Cornwall opened with a 39–21 loss to Rye before falling 22–21 to No. 1 Middletown. Monroe-Woodbury lost 36–20 to John F. Kennedy Campus and then 17–14 to Washingtonville. The Crusaders entered 2026 as the two-time defending Section IX Class AA champion. Cornwall remains No. 2 in the KOT845 Power 40 despite its record because of the level of competition and the program’s recent body of work.
Monroe-Woodbury also owns the recent series edge. The Crusaders lead the 15 documented scored meetings in the KOT845 archive 9–5–1 and have won the last two: 18–9 in 2024 and 7–3 in 2025. Cornwall’s most recent indexed win over Monroe-Woodbury came in Fall 2021, 14–7.
One of these programs leaves Friday with its first win of 2026. The other leaves 0–3.
Question: Does Monroe-Woodbury make it three straight over Cornwall, or do the Dragons break the streak and stop the early-season slide?

#9 Our Lady of Lourdes at #10 Valley Central — 6:00 PM
This is the cleanest top-10 matchup on Friday’s board.
Valley Central is 2–0 after beating Yorktown 21–14 in overtime and Wallkill 32–25. Lourdes is 1–1, but the Warriors responded to their opening loss to Washingtonville by putting 53 points on Pine Bush in a 53–12 win.
KOT845’s current archive has one previous scored meeting between these programs: Lourdes beat Valley Central 46–14 in 2022. Friday is a different test. Valley Central has a chance to turn a strong start into a real statement, while Lourdes can move back above .500 and strengthen its position near the top of the Class A conversation.
Question: Is Valley Central ready to turn 2–0 into a top-level résumé, or does Lourdes hand the Vikings their first loss?

#6 Port Jervis at #15 Marlboro — 7:00 PM
This series already has enough history to carry its own night.
Port Jervis is 1–1 after answering an opening loss to Waverly with a 31–3 win over defending Class A champion Minisink Valley. Marlboro opened its season with a 12–7 win over Chester.
Then there is the streak.
Port Jervis has won 10 straight scored meetings with Marlboro in the KOT845 archive. Marlboro’s last indexed win came in the 2019 regular season, 28–20. Port answered later that year with a 27–24 sectional championship win, then beat Marlboro 71–0 and 48–0 during the Spring 2021 season. The Raiders have not lost a scored meeting in the series since.
This is a Class B game with ranking pressure, recent championship history and a streak that Marlboro has been trying to end for years.
Question: Can Marlboro finally stop Port’s 10-game run in the series, or does Port add another chapter?

#17 Dover vs. #24 Spackenkill — 7:00 PM
Class C gets another direct test Friday.
Dover opened its season by beating defending Class B champion Saugerties 31–7. Spackenkill is already 2–0 after wins over New Paltz and Red Hook.
The larger series favors Spackenkill, 10–2 in the scored meetings currently indexed by KOT845. But Dover won the most recent meeting 34–10 in 2025, its first indexed win over Spackenkill since 2014.
Dover can validate the jump created by last week’s result. Spackenkill can move to 3–0 and force another rankings conversation.

#13 Beacon vs. Red Hook — 6:00 PM
Beacon is one of the remaining unbeaten 11-man teams entering Friday.
The Bulldogs are 2–0 after beating Roy C. Ketcham 27–14 and rallying past O’Neill 29–22. Red Hook is 1–1 after an opening win over Rondout Valley and a 27–14 loss to Spackenkill.
The two scored meetings currently in KOT845’s archive split the series: Red Hook won 28–19 in 2023, and Beacon answered 43–0 in 2024.
Beacon can move to 3–0. Red Hook can turn the Class B picture again by handing the Bulldogs their first loss.

#32 Pawling at #31 Sullivan West — 7:00 PM
If you are looking for the biggest eight-man matchup Friday, start here.
Sullivan West opened with a 56–14 win over Ellenville. Pawling beat Eldred 30–6. Both enter 1–0, and the indexed series is tied 5–5.
The recent games have mattered, too. Sullivan West beat Pawling 30–6 in the 2025 semifinals after Pawling won their regular-season meeting 61–32. Sullivan West also beat Pawling in the 2024 and 2023 eight-man championship games.
This is not just two unbeaten teams. It is a matchup that has repeatedly shown up late in the eight-man season.

Six more Friday games
#11 Warwick at #14 Pine Bush — 6:00 PM: Both teams are 0–2 and looking for their first win. Pine Bush won last year’s meeting 32–28, while Warwick leads the documented series 17–9.
Monticello at #8 Goshen — 7:00 PM: Goshen is 2–0 after one-score wins over John Jay Cross River and Kingston. Monticello is 0–2 and still looking for its first points of 2026. Goshen has won 11 straight scored meetings in the indexed series.
New Paltz at Chester — 7:00 PM: Both are 0–2. Chester won the most recent indexed meeting 47–0 in 2023; New Paltz won 30–23 the year before.
Poughkeepsie at Wallkill — 7:00 PM: Another 0–2 matchup, but the starts have looked different. Wallkill lost by one to Highland and by seven to Valley Central. Poughkeepsie has been shut out twice. Wallkill leads the four scored meetings currently indexed by KOT845, 3–1.
Pine Plains/Rhinebeck at Fallsburg — 6:00 PM: Pine Plains/Rhinebeck enters off a 48–0 win over Rockland Central on Monday. Fallsburg is trying to break through after opening 0–2.
Ellenville at Eldred — 7:00 PM: Ellenville enters 1–1. Eldred is 0–1 after a 30–6 loss to Pawling and gets another immediate eight-man test.
Saturday still has the headliner
Friday does not finish Week 2.
No. 1 Middletown visits No. 7 Minisink Valley Saturday at 7:00 PM. Middletown is 2–0 after a 32–0 shutout of Arlington and a 22–21 win at Cornwall. Minisink, the defending Class A champion, is 1–1 after beating Mahopac 18–15 and losing 31–3 at Port Jervis.
Saturday also brings O’Neill at Burke Catholic, Millbrook at Tri-Valley, and Rockland Central at Onteora.
That gives Week 2 three separate nights and no shortage of movement still ahead.
