Valley Central and Kingston do not need a rankings argument to explain why Friday matters. They get to settle the latest comparison on the field.
The Vikings bring a 3–1 record to Dietz Stadium, where the 2–2 Tigers await a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday, October 2. Section Nine Football identifies the matchup as a league game on its Week 4 schedule.
There is a recent series pattern for Kingston to challenge, too. KOT845’s indexed results show Valley Central winning the meetings in each of the previous three seasons.
Valley Central has controlled the recent meetings
The Vikings won 27–14 in 2023, 24–13 in 2024 and 20–14 in 2025. Kingston’s most recent victory in those available records was 28–7 in 2022.
The broader archive tells a different story: Kingston leads 19–8 across 27 indexed meetings. Those are the results currently documented by KOT845, not a claim that every historical meeting has been located.
That contrast gives this matchup some weight. Kingston has the larger share of the available series, but Valley Central has the recent results. Friday gives the Tigers a home opportunity to interrupt that run.
Two common opponents provide a useful comparison
Both teams have already faced FDR and Our Lady of Lourdes this season. Both beat FDR, and both lost to Lourdes.
Valley Central defeated FDR 34–7 after losing to Lourdes 39–22. Kingston beat FDR 35–14 before falling to Lourdes 31–20. Those scores appear in the Game Center’s recent-results comparison.
There is no reliable transitive winner hiding in those numbers. Valley Central had the wider margin against FDR; Kingston kept its loss to Lourdes closer. The useful conclusion is that both teams have faced some of the same opposition and now get a much clearer test against each other.
A direct opportunity in Class AA
Valley Central arrives off a win. Kingston arrives off a loss. A Vikings victory would move them to 4–1; a Tigers victory would put both teams at 3–2 overall.
Neither outcome would decide the entire Class AA race. It would, however, add a league result and a direct head-to-head comparison to two teams still establishing where they fit.
For Valley Central, the opportunity is to follow the FDR win with a road victory over a familiar opponent. For Kingston, it is to respond at home and stop a recent series trend that has favored the visitors.
What to watch: whether Valley Central can carry its defensive performance against FDR into another week, and whether Kingston can generate enough offense to turn a competitive game into a win. Last season’s six-point meeting is a reminder that the margin between these teams has not always been large.
