Rondout Valley and James I. O’Neill bring matching 2–2 records into Friday’s Class C matchup. That is where the similarities in their recent schedules end.
The Ganders are coming off a one-point victory over Spackenkill. The Raiders’ last two results were forfeits, one in each direction. Friday offers Rondout a chance to build on an on-field response and O’Neill a chance to get back to playing.
Rondout visits O’Neill on Friday, October 2, at 6:30 p.m. Section Nine Football lists it as a league game on its Week 4 schedule.
Rondout already found a response
Rondout’s September included a 30–7 win over New Paltz, followed by a 48–14 loss to Highland. The Ganders then edged Spackenkill 21–20 on September 24, bringing their overall record back to .500.
Those results, listed in the Game Center’s entering-the-matchup breakdown, give Friday a clear purpose: turn the Spackenkill win into a second consecutive league victory rather than another isolated good night.
A narrow win still counts. Following it with another result against a Class C opponent would give Rondout more to build on as the league schedule develops.
O’Neill’s record needs the full explanation
The Raiders opened with a 40–0 win over Haldane and lost 29–22 to Beacon. Their next two scheduled games did not produce on-field results: a forfeit loss to Burke Catholic was followed by a forfeit win over Poughkeepsie.
Section Nine Football’s scoreboard identifies both forfeits. They belong in the win-loss record, but they are not two additional games of offensive or defensive performance.
O’Neill’s two played games produced one win and one loss. Friday is an opportunity to add a new on-field result to that picture, not evidence that the Raiders have already played four games.
Class C has two games worth watching Friday
Dover also visits Highland Friday night. That puts four Class C teams into two direct league matchups on the same evening.
The attention on Dover–Highland should not bury this game. Rondout and O’Neill have their own opportunity to improve their league position against one another. An overall record, an editorial ranking and an official playoff seed are different things; Friday’s result adds evidence without settling the entire postseason race.
What to watch: O’Neill’s early offensive timing after the break from game action, and whether Rondout can carry its response against Spackenkill into another league matchup. Those are questions for Friday, not conclusions the records can answer in advance.
