The October 11 class-by-class rankings are live, presented by Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.
Most of the leaders stay where they were. Goshen moves ahead of Minisink Valley, Monroe-Woodbury’s first win matters, and Eight-Man gets the most reshuffling. But the biggest answers are coming Friday, when the top two teams in both Class AA and Class B meet.
See every team, rank and current record →
Class AA: Zero losses versus one. Friday is the test.
Middletown is 6–0. Newburgh is 5–1. Right now, Middletown has earned the right to stay first.
That does not require us to declare this the greatest Middletown team we have ever seen. The Middies keep winning, and there is no compelling reason to move Newburgh ahead before they play. Middletown just handled Valley Central 29–7; Newburgh beat Pine Bush 48–13. Both enter Friday with convincing wins behind them.
Newburgh visits Middletown Friday, October 16, at 6 p.m. We can stop comparing from a distance and let the game give us the next piece of evidence.
Below them, Valley Central stays third. Monroe-Woodbury moves to fourth after beating Kingston 31–22, with Pine Bush fifth and Kingston sixth. Monroe’s 1–5 record still has to be accounted for, but a fresh head-to-head win belongs in the evaluation.
Class A: Goshen is winning. That has to count.
Washingtonville, Lourdes and Cornwall remain the top three. Washingtonville beat Wallkill 35–7, Lourdes beat Minisink 47–14, and Cornwall beat Warwick 50–6. The next major comparison is Lourdes at Cornwall Saturday at 1 p.m. (rescheduled from Friday)
The change is Goshen moving to fourth and Minisink Valley dropping to fifth. This is about giving Goshen credit for continuing to win. The Gladiators are 5–1 after beating FDR 44–21. Minisink is 2–4.
We understand the schedules are different, and Goshen’s 37–7 loss to Washingtonville is still part of the picture. But schedule difficulty cannot keep carrying the entire argument while one team adds wins and the other keeps losing. For this week, Goshen gets the spot. Wallkill, Warwick and FDR remain sixth through eighth.
Class B: Beacon gets its opportunity Friday.
Port Jervis stays first, Beacon second and Marlboro third. Port beat Red Hook 56–7. Beacon answered with a 49–6 win over Saugerties to reach 6–0. Marlboro’s 14–7 win over Highland strengthens its position behind the top two.
Beacon has done enough to make this a real conversation. Now comes the direct test: Beacon at Port Jervis Friday at 7 p.m. Like Middletown–Newburgh, we are one game away from having much better evidence about the top spot.
Saugerties stays fourth. New Paltz moves ahead of Red Hook into fifth after its first win, 34–22 over Liberty. Those two meet Saturday, giving that part of the board its own immediate test. Liberty remains seventh.
Class C: Highland’s loss does not erase the Dover result.
The order stays Highland, Dover, O’Neill, Rondout Valley and Spackenkill. Highland lost 14–7 to Class B Marlboro, but its 31–14 win over Dover still carries weight in this class.
October 16 update: O’Neill beat Dover 20–0 on Thursday, adding a direct result to this comparison. The rankings discussed here are the October 11 snapshot.
Class D: Burke supplied the direct answer.
Burke Catholic remains first after beating Chester 35–15 and improving to 6–0. Chester stays second. With only two teams on this board, the latest meeting makes this week’s order straightforward.
Eight-Man: Results move the middle of the board.
Pawling remains first at 5–0 after beating Onteora 40–12. Sullivan West is second following its 30–0 win over Fallsburg. Eldred rises to third after beating Rockland 40–6; its earlier 34–0 win over Ellenville also matters.
Ellenville moves to fourth after beating Millbrook 28–8. Millbrook is fifth, ahead of Tri-Valley in sixth, with its 46–12 head-to-head win supporting that placement. Onteora is seventh, followed by Pine Plains/Rhinebeck, Rockland and Fallsburg.
Onteora’s earlier win over Ellenville remains part of the evaluation. The middle of this class has conflicting results, so this is our current editorial order rather than a claim that every matchup has been settled. Ellenville–Pawling and Tri-Valley–Sullivan West give us two more important tests Friday.
Independent: Monticello stays ahead.
Monticello remains first after beating Poughkeepsie 22–8 for its second consecutive win. The Panthers are 2–4; Poughkeepsie is 0–6.
These are KOT845 editorial rankings, separate from official standings and playoff seeding. This article explains the October 11 class rankings. The Power 40 remains the October 7 release.
