Week 5 does not treat every team the same.
Some are protecting unbeaten starts. Some are chasing division control. Others are trying to stop one difficult month from becoming an entire season.
These five teams enter Week 5 with something important to answer.
Monroe-Woodbury: stop the slide
The Crusaders are 0-5.
That is not where Monroe-Woodbury expected to be at the midpoint of the regular season. Week 4 ended with a 38-7 loss to Newburgh, and now Kingston comes to Monroe on Friday.
At some point, close calls and difficult opponents stop being enough. The Crusaders need a result.

Warwick: turn points into a complete game
Warwick is also 0-5.
The Wildcats did score 35 against Lourdes in Week 4, but the game began with Lourdes building a 30-0 lead. That left Warwick chasing the game almost from the start.
Now the Wildcats head to Cornwall.
The offense showed signs. Week 5 is about making those signs matter for four quarters.

Pine Bush: the schedule keeps asking hard questions
Pine Bush enters 1-4 and gets Newburgh Free Academy next.
The Bushmen lost 28-13 to Middletown in Week 4 and now see another top AA team immediately.
That is a difficult assignment. It is also a chance to prove that Pine Bush can stay in the fight against the class’s best teams.

Minisink Valley: 2-3 cannot become 2-4 quietly
Minisink is 2-3 after Cornwall scored 49 against the Warriors in Week 4.
Week 5 sends Minisink to a 4-1 Lourdes team that has been scoring at a high level for a month.
This is not an easy rebound spot. That is exactly why the response matters.

Goshen: prove Week 4 was one night
Goshen started 4-0. Then Washingtonville beat the Gladiators 37-7.
That result changed the feel of the Class A race, but it does not erase what Goshen did in September.
Friday at FDR is about proving exactly that.
Good teams lose games. The response usually tells you more.
Week 5 is where responses start becoming identities
There is still plenty of football left.
But by October, a team cannot keep saying it will answer next week. Eventually, the next week arrives.
For these five programs, that week is here.
