Cornwall’s Win Changes the Class A Conversation. The Division Schedule Keeps Going.

Cornwall and Goshen opened their division races with wins. Lourdes and Wallkill need responses, while Washingtonville and Warwick meet in the other division.

Cornwall’s 43–41 win over Lourdes was the finish everyone will remember from Saturday. Its immediate playoff effect is just as important: the Dragons are 1–0 in their Class A division, and Lourdes is 0–1. Goshen also opened 1–0 by beating Wallkill 38–16.

That leaves four teams with two division games apiece still on the schedule. Class A sends two teams from each division to the postseason. Overall records help describe a season; the division results decide this race.

Cornwall must carry the finish to Wallkill

The Dragons trailed Lourdes 34–29 after three quarters and finished with a two-point win. They now visit Wallkill on Friday, October 23. Cornwall is 4–3 overall; the Panthers are 3–4.

Cornwall’s direct result against Lourdes gives its season a stronger answer than another comparison of shared opponents could supply. Wallkill’s task is to respond after allowing 38 points to Goshen. With only three qualifying division games per team, there is little space to put a difficult result aside and wait for the race to sort itself out.

Lourdes and Goshen meet with different opening results

Lourdes visits Goshen on Saturday, October 24. The Warriors are 5–2 overall, while Goshen is 6–1. Their division records are 0–1 and 1–0, respectively.

Lourdes scored 41 against Cornwall and still lost. That makes the next defensive performance part of the story as much as the offense. Goshen, meanwhile, has another chance to turn its strong overall season into qualifying results after beating Wallkill.

The Gladiators arrive with a 22-point division win. Lourdes arrives after a two-point division loss. Their next meeting can strengthen Goshen’s position or bring the Warriors back into the race on a much firmer footing. That gives this game immediate stakes before any attempt to project November matchups.

Washingtonville and Warwick are both 1–0 in the other division

Washingtonville’s overall record is 6–1. Warwick’s is 1–6. Both won their first division game: the Wizards beat Minisink Valley 41–7, and the Wildcats shut out FDR 26–0.

They meet Friday at Warwick. The difference in full-season records is substantial, but the qualifying records begin the week level. Washingtonville has been producing the stronger season and now has another opportunity to turn that into division position. Warwick’s first victory gives the Wildcats a result to build on before a much more difficult assignment.

FDR and Minisink Valley also meet Friday, each at 0–1 in the division and 2–5 overall. That game gives both programs an immediate chance to respond to an opening division loss.

Let the remaining games establish the field

Through October 17, KOT845’s current model has all eight Class A teams still in contention. The top two in each division advance. A ranking, an overall win total or a close loss does not substitute for that process.

The standings page separates overall and division records and shows the tiebreak figures. Use the Playoff Lab for projections and the October 22–24 guide for the scheduled games. Cornwall’s win is in the books. The remaining division results still have to be earned.

Records and race status are through October 17, 2026. Kickoff details can change; check the linked Game Centers and schools before traveling.
