Beacon Is 5–0. Thursday Gives Saugerties the First Shot at Ending It.

Beacon brings a 5-0 record and a 36.0-point scoring average into Thursday’s home game with Saugerties. The Sawyers still lead the indexed series 3-1.

Before the rest of Week 5 gets to Friday, Beacon has business to handle Thursday night.

The Bulldogs enter 5-0 and host Saugerties at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 8, at Beacon High School.

Beacon is no longer sneaking up on anyone

Beacon has reached Week 5 unbeaten and is averaging 36.0 points per game while allowing 16.6.

The Bulldogs’ latest statement came in Week 4, when they scored 63 points in a 63-34 win over New Paltz.

That made Beacon 5-0. It also made the next question obvious: how long can this run continue?

Saugerties owns the older series edge

Saugerties enters Thursday 2-2 and ranked No. 22 in the current KOT845 Power 40.

The KOT845 archive currently has four previous Beacon–Saugerties results. Saugerties leads that indexed series 3–1.

The most recent meeting, however, belongs to Beacon. The Bulldogs won 21-14 in 2024.

Other indexed meetings include a 35-14 Saugerties win in 2023 and older Saugerties victories in 1998 and 1982.

The numbers point to two different starts

Beacon brings a five-game winning streak into Thursday. Saugerties enters off a loss.

The Bulldogs are averaging 36.0 points. Saugerties is at 19.5. Beacon is allowing 16.6 per game; Saugerties is allowing 21.0.

Those numbers explain the records. They do not guarantee Thursday’s result.

What they do guarantee is that Beacon will walk onto its home field with something it did not have a month ago: expectations.

Thursday can push Beacon to 6–0

A win would move the Bulldogs to 6-0 before the majority of Section IX even reaches Friday night.

That would also keep pressure on the rest of the Week 5 board and force another rankings conversation once the weekend is complete.

For Saugerties, Thursday is an opportunity to interrupt one of the section’s best starts and change the direction of its own season at the same time.
