Basketball Is Here: November 16 Practice, Early December Matchups and the Winter Road Ahead

Practice opens November 16. A sourced first look at early December boys and girls matchups, scrimmage dates, venue notes and cancellations.

The football title races are reaching their final stretch, and basketball preparation is already on the calendar. Section IX’s winter practice start is Monday, November 16. Schools set their own tryout times and clearance requirements; November 16 is the practice start, not a universal opening-game date.

KOT845 checked Bound’s varsity listings on November 2. The dates below are confirmed schedule listings, subject to later school changes. They are an opening-week selection, not a declaration that every school’s schedule is complete. All times are Eastern.

November 16: practice opens

Players and families should check school athletics notices for tryout times, registration, physicals and clearance. The Section IX calendar lists the winter start; each school controls its local arrangements.

November scrimmages are preparation

Bound labels the checked November 24–30 boys events as scrimmages. Examples include Peekskill–Wallkill and Nyack–Middletown on November 24, and the OCBOA multi-scrimmage at Orange County Community College on November 27. Those events belong on a preparation calendar and do not count as regular-season wins, losses or standings results.

The Minisink Valley–Port Jervis listing is the December 2 replacement for the original December 4 date. The original postponed entry remains separate so it does not become a second game.

Two girls games at Valley Central on December 2

Bound lists Goshen–Wallkill at 5:30 p.m. and Burke Catholic–Valley Central at 7 p.m., both at Valley Central High School’s VCHS Gym. That venue matters: do not assume Goshen–Wallkill is being played at either team’s own gym.

Schedule changes to know

The boys December 2 Valley Central–Burke and Kingston–Minisink games are marked canceled on Bound. Cornwall–Newburgh on December 4 and Beacon–Chester on December 18 are also canceled. KOT845 now preserves those cancellations in the schedule instead of presenting them as active fixtures. Canceled games carry no score or record result.

Beacon’s trip to Port Jervis is currently February 12 at 6 p.m.; the original February 19 listing remains postponed. Check the Beacon team schedule and the school source before traveling.

Two sports, one 845

Football semifinals are November 6, followed by sectional championship weekend November 13–14. Follow the football slate here. KOT845 is building basketball coverage alongside that title chase; after sectionals, basketball leads while football coverage follows the Section IX teams advancing through states.

Coaches and school staff can send a schedule correction with a school or Bound event link. Businesses can explore winter basketball partnerships.
