FDR’s 2-1 Start Gets Its Best Test Yet at Valley Central

FDR is 2-1 after opening 86-0 and then losing at Kingston. Valley Central is 2-1 and ranked No. 10. Friday gives the Presidents their clearest chance to validate the turnaround.

FDR opened the season 2-0 and outscored its first two opponents 86-0.

Then came Kingston.

The Presidents lost 35-14.

That result did not erase the progress. It did expose the central question around FDR entering Week 3:

How real is the turnaround once the schedule gets harder?

Friday night at Valley Central should give KOT845 a much better answer.

FDR’s first two weeks were dominant

The Presidents started 2026 by beating Poughkeepsie 44-0.

Then they beat Monticello 42-0.

Through two games, FDR had scored 86 points and allowed none.

That mattered because FDR finished 1-9 in 2025. A program coming off that kind of season does not need to apologize for beating the teams on its schedule.

But Poughkeepsie and Monticello are both still near the bottom of the current Power 40.

The first major step up came at Kingston.

Kingston won 35-14.

Now FDR gets another step up, this time against No. 10 Valley Central.

The Presidents still have numbers worth watching

FDR is averaging 33.3 points per game and allowing only 11.7 through three games.

The 35 points allowed at Kingston changed the defensive profile, but the first two shutouts still matter.

KOT845’s checked player totals are incomplete, but they do provide some current context.

Jonah Bomba has 164 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in two games with stats.

Anthony Daniels has four rushing touchdowns in the available totals.

Darren Garrett has 79 rushing yards in two games with stats and also has an interception in the available defensive totals.

Head coach Ken Barger does not need FDR to look like a finished product in September.

He needs the Presidents to show that the first two weeks represented a real shift, not just favorable matchups.

Valley Central’s 2-1 record is built differently

Valley Central also enters 2-1.

The Vikings beat Yorktown 21-14 and Wallkill 32-25 before losing 39-22 to Lourdes.

Unlike FDR, Valley Central has lived in close games from the start.

The Vikings are averaging 25.0 points and allowing 26.0.

That is only a one-point average scoring deficit despite the winning record.

The reason is simple: the two wins came by seven points each, and the Lourdes loss came by 17.

Head coach Kyle Schneider is in his first season leading the program, and the Vikings have already shown they can finish tight games.

Valley Central has the deeper stat profile

KOT845’s checked totals show Andrew Waite with 479 passing yards and five passing touchdowns through three games.

Jason Montgomery has 295 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

Triston Wright has 185 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Defensively, Cole DeRhonda and Jude Revella each have 24 tackles in the available totals, while Elijah Strother has three interceptions.

That gives Valley Central a clearer statistical identity entering Friday.

FDR’s challenge is to prove that its own production travels against that level of opponent.

FDR won this matchup last year

This is not a game where FDR has to imagine what beating Valley Central looks like.

The Presidents did it last season.

FDR 21, Valley Central 9.

That result came one year after Valley Central beat FDR 39-0 in 2024.

The last two meetings have swung dramatically in opposite directions.

KOT845’s available series also includes FDR wins in 2016, 2014, 2012, 2011 and 2010, along with several Valley Central wins in the 2000s.

Why the 2025 result matters now

FDR’s 21-9 win over Valley Central last year is important because it removes one easy excuse from Friday’s game.

The Presidents do not have to prove the matchup is possible.

They have already beaten this program recently.

The question is whether the 2026 version of FDR can do it while carrying expectations instead of playing from the bottom of the board.

That is a different kind of pressure.

The rankings are asking FDR for stronger evidence

FDR sits No. 20 in the September 23 Power 40.

Valley Central is No. 10.

That gap is not based only on record.

Both teams are 2-1.

The difference is résumé quality.

Valley Central has wins over Yorktown and Wallkill, then lost to No. 5 Lourdes.

FDR has wins over Poughkeepsie and Monticello, then lost to No. 11 Kingston.

Friday gives FDR a direct chance to change the strength-of-schedule argument.

What an FDR win would mean

If FDR wins at Valley Central, the Presidents will have a road victory over a current Top-10 team.

That would immediately become their best win of the season.

It would also make the Kingston loss easier to place in context because Kingston itself is sitting just outside the Top 10.

At 3-1 with a Valley Central win, FDR would become one of the hardest teams in the middle of the Power 40 to keep down.

What a Valley Central win would mean

Valley Central can stabilize its Top-10 position.

The Vikings are coming off their first loss, and Lourdes exposed some defensive issues in a 39-22 game.

Beating FDR would move Valley Central to 3-1 and give the Vikings three wins before the calendar reaches October.

It would also strengthen the argument that their first two wins were not just early-season escapes.

This is the exact game both teams need

FDR needs a quality win.

Valley Central needs a response.

FDR needs to prove the 2-0 start was more than Poughkeepsie and Monticello.

Valley Central needs to prove the Lourdes loss did not knock the Vikings out of the Top-10 conversation.

Both teams are 2-1.

Only one is currently ranked like a contender.

Friday gives FDR the chance to close that gap on the field instead of arguing about it on paper.
