Understanding the Race

Team Sport. Individual Test.

Cross country rewards the runner at the front and the complete team behind them. Every finishing place can change the final result.

How Team Scoring Works

Five Runners Build the Score.

A team’s first five finishers produce its scoring total. Lower is better. Sixth and seventh runners can also matter by displacing opponents and changing the points available behind them.

01Every runner races for an individual place and time.
05The first five finishers create the team score.
6–7Additional varsity runners can affect opponents through displacement.
LowThe team with the lowest scoring total wins.
