Friday Night Wrap: Middletown Hits 50, Rondout Stands Tall and Pine Plains Pulls the Upset

All 11 Friday finals: Middletown beats Monroe-Woodbury 50–12, Rondout wins with a goal-line stand, Pine Plains/Rhinebeck upsets Onteora 34–32, and Newburgh rallies past Kingston 21–12.

Friday gave Section IX a 50-point rivalry win, a goal-line stand on homecoming and a two-point eight-man upset. All 11 played games on KOT845’s Friday board are final. Ellenville also received a forfeit win over Hoosic Valley Central; that game was not played and has no on-field score.

Middletown ends Monroe-Woodbury’s run

Middletown beat Monroe-Woodbury 50–12 to reach 8–0. RJ Tinsley scored three first-half touchdowns, and the Middies led 44–0 at halftime. The result ends Monroe-Woodbury’s five-game winning streak in the series. Middletown had not beaten the Crusaders at home since 2001 in the available series record.

Monroe-Woodbury falls to 1–7 overall and 1–3 in Class AA qualifying play. Four of the six AA teams advance. The Crusaders host Pine Bush on Saturday, Oct. 31, in the regular-season finale. Pine Bush first hosts Valley Central this Saturday, so that result will shape the cut line; Monroe needs to beat Pine Bush to keep its playoff bid alive.

Rondout holds the line; Pine Plains flips the script

On homecoming, Rondout Valley stopped Chester at the 1-yard line to seal a 14–8 win. A game decided by six points came down to one yard.

Pine Plains/Rhinebeck edged Onteora 34–32 in the night’s tightest final. The result did not change the six-team playoff field: Pine Plains/Rhinebeck and Onteora are out. Ellenville has Division 2’s third spot. Millbrook at Pawling on Saturday decides the division champion and first-round bye; the loser finishes second and hosts a quarterfinal.

Newburgh rallies; Burke stays perfect

Kingston led 12–7 at halftime, but Newburgh scored the final 14 points to win 21–12. It is Newburgh’s 14th straight win in the rivalry. Kingston is eliminated from the AA playoff race.

Spackenkill led Burke Catholic 14–13 at the half. Burke answered with 22 unanswered points and won 35–14, moving to 8–0.

Shutouts and decisive Class A results

Cornwall shut out Wallkill 56–0 after leading 28–0 at halftime and 49–0 through three quarters. Washingtonville blanked Warwick 21–0. Minisink Valley beat FDR 43–7. Saturday night’s Lourdes–Goshen matchup is still ahead in the other Class A division.

In Class B, Port Jervis beat Liberty 56–0 and Marlboro shut out New Paltz 40–0. In eight-man play, Sullivan West beat Rockland Central 38–0.
