One week ago, Pine Bush looked like a team searching for answers.
Washingtonville looked like one of the strongest risers in Section IX.
Then Week 2 happened.
Pine Bush beat Warwick 34-17.
Washingtonville lost to Newburgh 48-12.
Now they meet Friday night with both teams trying to prove which version of themselves is real.

Washingtonville built its ranking with two real wins
Washingtonville is 2-1 and No. 4 in the September 23 KOT845 Power 40.
The Wizards earned that position by beating Lourdes 34-16 and Monroe-Woodbury 17-14.
Those wins matter even more now.
Lourdes has climbed to No. 5 after scoring 92 points over its last two games.
Monroe-Woodbury is 0-3, but the Crusaders remain the defending Class AA champion.
Washingtonville did not climb because of an easy schedule.
It climbed because it beat teams KOT845 expected to matter.
Then Newburgh changed the picture
Newburgh beat Washingtonville 48-12 last Thursday.
It was the first result this season that made the Wizards look clearly overmatched.
Newburgh is No. 3 in the Power 40, so the loss is not disqualifying.
But the margin matters.
Washingtonville now has to prove that 48-12 was one bad night, not the point where the early surge stopped.
Head coach Joseph Delgardo gets that opportunity at home Friday.
Pine Bush finally gave itself something to build on
Pine Bush opened with a competitive 41-34 loss to John Jay East Fishkill.
Then Lourdes beat the Bushmen 53-12.
At 0-2 and coming off a 41-point loss, the season could have started sliding.
Instead, Pine Bush beat Warwick 34-17.
That was not just the first win.
It was the first evidence that Pine Bush could respond after being hit hard.
Head coach Rich Ormsby now gets a chance to turn one response into a trend.
The Lourdes comparison is impossible to ignore
Washingtonville beat Lourdes 34-16.
Pine Bush lost to Lourdes 53-12.
That is a 59-point swing in comparative margin against the same opponent.
Common opponents are not perfect predictors. Matchups, injuries, field position and game flow change every week.
But they are evidence.
And right now, the Lourdes comparison strongly favors Washingtonville.
Pine Bush needs Friday to create newer evidence.
Pine Bush has more offensive production than the record suggests
The Bushmen are averaging 26.7 points per game.
The problem has been the other side of the scoreboard. They are allowing 37.0.
KOT845’s available player totals show Ryan Curtin with 224 passing yards in one game with stats and Ruben Simpson with 257 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns across two games with stats.
Jace Robinson leads the available receiving yardage at 186.
Noah Schorling has three receiving touchdowns in the currently reviewed totals.
Those figures are partial, but the team scoring tells the broader story.
Pine Bush has put up 34 points twice.
The offense is capable of keeping the Bushmen in games.
Washingtonville has its own playmakers
KOT845’s checked totals show Brennan Tesseyman with 385 passing yards and four passing touchdowns through three games.
Christian Justafort has 239 rushing yards.
Bryce Tesseyman has 219 receiving yards, three receiving touchdowns and two defensive interceptions.
Shane Allums has 35 tackles and two sacks in the available totals.
That balance is part of why Washingtonville’s first two wins were believable.
The Wizards have multiple ways to affect a game.
This series is almost even
KOT845’s available history has Pine Bush leading Washingtonville 17-15.
Washingtonville has won the last two preserved meetings:
- 28-7 in 2025;
- 28-16 in Spring 2021.
Pine Bush’s most recent win came in the 2019 Class AA semifinals, 35-13.
That 2019 season also produced one of the wildest preserved meetings in the series, when Pine Bush beat Washingtonville 60-27 during the regular season.

Pine Bush is chasing its first win over Washingtonville since 2019
The History Watch milestone is straightforward.
A Pine Bush victory Friday would be its first over Washingtonville in the available records since that 2019 semifinal.
Washingtonville, meanwhile, can push its current run to three straight preserved wins in the series.
That gives Friday both current ranking value and a real history marker.
The rankings are asking different questions of each team
Washingtonville is No. 4.
Pine Bush is No. 12.
For Washingtonville, the question is whether it belongs that high after the Newburgh loss.
For Pine Bush, the question is whether the Warwick win is strong enough to launch a real climb.
The cleanest way to answer both is head-to-head.
What Pine Bush can gain
A road win over No. 4 would completely change the Bushmen’s résumé.
Pine Bush would move to 2-2 with wins over Warwick and Washingtonville.
That would be two quality wins in consecutive weeks after an 0-2 start.
It would also give Pine Bush a direct result over a team currently ten spots higher in the Power 40.
No ranking discussion could ignore that.
What Washingtonville has to protect
The Wizards already own two of the better wins in the section.
They do not need to reinvent their résumé.
They need to stop the Newburgh loss from becoming the beginning of a trend.
A win over Pine Bush would move Washingtonville to 3-1 and immediately restore stability before an October schedule that includes Goshen, Wallkill, Minisink Valley, Warwick and FDR.
Friday tells us which Week 2 result mattered more
Pine Bush beat Warwick by 17.
Washingtonville lost to Newburgh by 36.
Those results moved the teams in opposite emotional directions.
But one week does not define a season.
Friday gives both teams a chance to prove that.
Pine Bush found life. Washingtonville needs a response. One of those stories gets stronger Friday night.
