The transitional postseason era immediately before and during the launch of the full NYSPHSAA football tournament.
1990
Sectional champions: Warwick (A), Saugerties (B), O’Neill (C), Roscoe (D). Roscoe advanced through its state quarterfinal; the season ended after the quarterfinal round.
1991
Sectional champions: Pine Bush (A), Warwick (B), Highland (C), Delaware Valley (D). Warwick won its state quarterfinal; the other three champions were eliminated.
1992
Sectional champions: Monroe-Woodbury (A), Onteora (B), Highland (C), Delaware Valley (D). Onteora and Delaware Valley advanced to state semifinals before their seasons ended.
1993
Sectional champions: Middletown (A), Saugerties (B), Ellenville (C), Delaware Valley (D). The full NYSPHSAA tournament era began; all four Section IX champions were eliminated in the state-quarterfinal round.
